Located right after the little bridge entering Inglewood, this 111 years old building is hard to miss. Managed by the same team at River Cafe, Deane House focuses on Canadian sustainable and seasonal cuisine.
For Big Taste, they offered a $15 three course meal. Starting off with the Lentil Soup. Heavily spiced with Moroccan flavours, the soup has just the right amount of thickness and creaminess (was not too grainy). It was a great way to start the three courses!
For the second course, it was a choice of Burger or Grits (vegetarian), I had to try both! Even though the burger was very simple and did not come with any sides, it was an extremely well-made burger. Sandwiched between two nicely toasted buns, the beef patty was seared with a touch of pink in the middle and topped with cheese. I've got to say, it is the perfect bun to meat ratio!
The other offering for the main course was the Grits. It was nice to see that they had a vegetarian option! The Grits was creamy and paired perfectly with the sourness coming from the crunchy fermented carrots. Although this dish did not have depths of flavour like the soup, it was a nicely composed dish.
Lastly, it finished with two Lemon Squares. Soft and moist, the squares has the perfect density. We also ordered a latte (Monogram beans) that goes well with the sweetness of the squares.
Check out my review on their sister restaurant River Cafe!
